Today's topic is: Typography
Typography is the artistic process of placing type on an a page. It includes the application of design principles to the setting of the type, the choice and use of type, and designing with type.
You might be wondering why there is a whole different study for just 'fonts' and 'type'. Well basically the font or type used can create different degrees of emphasis, or can communicate mood and emotions in the viewer. Take a look at the example below; by looking at it you can guess what they mean:
One MAIN point to keep in mind when working with typography is the difference between typeface and fonts. Typeface is basically the main design of the letters, like Arial. Fonts are the different variants of the main typeface, like Arial Regular, Arial Black, Arial Narrow, Arial Rounded, Arial Special, Arial Light, Arial Medium, e.t.c.
Typography also covers the anatomy of typefaces. Here is a diagram that summarizes most of it:
In my opinion, typography is a very interesting study. It sure is thrilling to see all the different ways a letter can be written!

ReplyDeleteI like how you made it so detailed. And yes, Typography is a very interesting study. There are many ways in which a word can be written whether it's itacilized, bolded, underlined, having a different font, etc. I like how this post was pretty informative.
