In our last blog post we talked about prehistoric art. In today's blog, we will discuss about Art in Early Historic Times (After Prehistoric times - Around 1860s).
Well, the cave painting and sculptures from the prehistoric times can be considered Art, but the history of art officially begins from the Romanesque Era (1000 CE). In this era, Christian priests decided to preach using art. They painted important figures and mythological figures.
The next era, was the Gothic era (1100-1500 CE). This is when artists painted scenes of daily life, such as hunting. Meanwhile, throughout the era, the art of painting continued to develop. Many techniques, such as making realistic human faces, were found in this era. The next era, The Renaissance Era (1420-1520), was one of the golden eras in the history of art. It contains some of the most famous artists in history, like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Art became more realistic then ever, and many almost perfect 3D sculptures were built. And of course, it was during this era Leonardo da Vinci painted his famous painting, the Mona Lisa. Mannerism (1520-1600), the next era, was not a good one. In this era, artists made cheap art (i.e it wasn't good). Even Michelangelo's work in this era is claimed to be unsatisfactory. In The Baroque Era (1600-1760), the purpose of art took a turn. Instead of preaching Christianity with art, kings and princes were painted going to heavens with angels. The next era, The Rococo Art Period (1725-1780), was when the theme of paintings changed. The colors in the painting became lighter, and brighter.
Romanticism (1790-1850), the last era of early historic art, was an era when all artists painted pieces of art full of emotion.
All eras after 1860s are considered the evolution of modern art, which we will discuss in our next blog post on History.
