Comics

  Today's topic is: Comics

A comic is a way to tell a story visually using images that are combined text. The first comics can be dated back to the 16th century in Germany and 18th century in England. Most of these comics were used politically. Slowly other types of comics like science fiction, fantasy, comedy, action/adventure, horror, humor, romance, children's, and adult's comics were released. The first official comic was The Yellow Kid and started in 1895. All comics till the early 2000s were sold with newspapers, magazines, or as a physical book. Today, most comics are read online.

A comic strip is made up of many elements, including captions, setting, panels, and gutter.

Captions are things that the reader may want to know about the story, but will not find out just by the dialogue of the characters. Most captions are placed in a yellow box on the top.

Setting is the place the event is taking place. The setting includes characters, dialogue, and objects that gives off the sensation of the place.

Panels are boxes in sequence that tell the story. They are read in rows left to right. Gutter is the space between panels.

In my opinion, comics are a great way to have fun! I don't think the use of comic will ever disappear, for the need of humor and thrill will never leave our lives. What type of comic do you read the most? Let us know in the comments below!
