Today's topic is: Principles of Design
The principles of design are the rules that have to be observed when producing an art. Keep in mind that not all these rules have to be followed when creating one piece of art.
The 7 Elements of Design are:
- Balance
- Contrast
- Emphasis
- Movement
- Repetition/Pattern
- Rhythm
- Unity
Balance is the distribution of visual weight. There are 3 types of Balance: Symmetrical (Mirrored Image), Asymmetrical , and Radical (Centered).
Contrast is the difference (opposite) between elements in a composition.
Emphasis is, as the name suggests, emphasis on an element. Also called focal point, it is supposed to be the first thing to catch the viewer's eye.
Movement creates the look and feel of movement when you view the image.
Repetition/Pattern is repeating the same element over and over again to create something like a pattern.
Rhythm is basically repetition, except the repeated element creates movement.
Unity is the harmony of all elements put together, so like all the elements go together and make a perfect image.
So that's all the principles of design. If the elements are utilized while keeping these principles of design, the product will surely be an outstanding piece of art.
