Today's topic is: Web Design
Web Design is the many different skills that is needed to create, design, and maintain a website. Since web designers design the layout and appearance of the website, they must have both artistic and computer skills. Web designing has many elements including user interface design, search engine optimization, web graphic design, and user experience design. Web designers must make sure that the theme and layout of the website match their company and are friendly to their targeted audience.
Web Design begin in the 1990s. It was originally focused on only desktop webs, however, 2010, design for mobile and tablet browsers became more important.
The first web ever was created by a British computer scientist, Tim Berners-Lee, in August 1991. Before then, people had to access different computers to gather information. To solve this problem, Tim Berners-Lee created the WWW, or World Wide Web. This was the first web, so as you can guess it was pretty plain - only offering their users the functions necessary. Over time, people developed on making website more aesthetically pleasing, which is how where we get its name: Web Design.
Here's a brief timeline on Web Design development throughout the years:
1991 - The First Website was created using HTML
1993 - The Search is launched, Landing Pages fist come out
1994 - Ads in Websites were added, Java Script was released
1996 - Flash is released. Flash changed the landscape of web designing. For the first time, web designers could create any shape, add animation and develop more engaging sites.
1998 - CSS was released
2000 - Online businesses started, thanks to PayPal.
2004 - MySpace, the first interact-with-other-people-online website, was released. In order to change you profile, you had to access the HTML settings.
2006 - Facebook was released. This was the first user friendly interact-with-other-people-online website, in which you did not have to know any coding languages to change your profile.
2007 - Mobile-Friendly websites are released by Apple. Before 2007, using a web from a phone was absolutely frustrating.
2010 - Ethan Marcotte, a web designer, creates the Responsive Design. This means that instead of creating a whole new website for a mobile (which was done from 2007-2010), the same website for a desktop could be used and that the layout should just be changed depending on the size of the device.
The history of web designing is really an interesting one. It is surely strange how we have a beautiful and cool website today whereas only 3 decades ago we had a plain website only with black and blue text! I certainly enjoyed reading this. I like how you organized the information into a timeline. It's kind of hard to think how web design can evolve even more. It is kinda wondrous how we changed from black and blue text to websites with amazing backgrounds and design!
