Today's topic is: Computer-Generated Art
Computer-Generated Art, or Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI), is art created with a computer. The images are always very realistic, and takes viewers to another dimension of the world (fantasy). Thus, almost all movies use CGI. There are 2 types of CGI: 2D computer graphics and 3D computer graphics. 2D CGI is used for text, backgrounds, and environments while 3D CGI is used for objects, figures, spaces, and environments. Though technology has gone really far, it takes a lot of work to make a movie as realistic as it looks. Still, all movies use CGI. So, how did CGI become so popular in the film industry?
`
CGI gained popularity in the film industry in the late 1990s, but its histroy goes back to the 1950s. The first film which used CGI was Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo in 1958. It was however, 2D CGI. The first 3D computer graphics was introduced after the release of a short computer animated film, “A Computer Animated Hand”, in 1972, by Edwin Catmull and Fred Parke. By the end of the 1970s, CGI was used in a few science fiction movies. As CGI continued to be used in movies throughout the 1980s and 1990s, it gained more and more popularity. More development was made to it throughout the years. By the early 2000s, CGI was used at a never-before rate. Today, CGI is used in numerous movies, video games, marketing, advertisements, television shows, and more.
